Taiwan June 2008 Day 4

Hello all! My last day in Taiwan tonight.. =( But I had steamboat last night so I'm happy.. Haha.. We ordered the 2 soups one but the mala was so damn spicy that we decided to drink the fish soup instead.. Our dessert was free flow of Movenpick ice cream.. Hehe..

Day 4- 14 June 2008

My father arranged to meet with his Taiwanese friend, Vanessa for the day.. She's a Taiwanese who travels to Singapore to work frequently so she's a Singaporean PR.. My father met her on a plane.. Haha.. Anyway, plan was to go to Jiufen.. She sms-ed that she'll be late so we headed to 7-11 for breakfast first.. Sick of the hotel one le.. Haha..

Finally met her and we headed to Taipei Main Station for our train to Ruifang.. I seriously had no idea how to take a train.. We saw a Japanese couple with a young child on the same train as well and realised they were going to Jiufen as well.. I wonder how they actually bought the tickets..

Arrived at the station after 30mins and again, I had no idea why we had pay for train fare adjustment at the Ruifang station.. Haha.. Met the Japanese couple again and told them to follow us.. Had abit of trouble telling them how much it was for the bus ride up to Jiufen and stuff to do on top the mountain.. At times like these, I wish my grandma was around.. Haha..

Tada! We have arrived! So pretty the scenery! Especially the far off mountains in the fog.. Splitted up with the Japanese couple after that and they even took a picture with Vanessa thinking she was a tour guide.. Haha.. But you could see they were really grateful.. The young child was really cute.. Especially when she wore the tiny rain coat..

Went into an alley where they sold lots of tiny souvenirs and food.. Bought tea leaves and honey lime mixture (can I tell you guys that I'm a sucker for honey lime drinks? I just love them!) Haha.. Ate this peanut popiah with ice cream and BBQ mushrooms.. Then it was time for lunch.. Ordered some mix fishballs soup, spring onion kueh and 2 bowls of Tianbula..

Made our way to the "City of Sadness" after lunch..

And it was time for tea so we settled in this little tea shop facing the mountains and sea..

Didn't know how the proper method of making tea so we let Vanessa do it.. Haha.. But now I know le so if we ever go out for chinese tea session, I know how to make le..

Took a bus down to Jilong where we visited the night market where there were more things to eat than drink.. Haha.. That's me at a roadside stall feasting on Oyster Omelette and Mee Sua.. Walked around abit more.. Too many things to eat.. My father wanted to buy some Buddhist music so we walked up to a temple.. Very grand one but no pics allowed..

Time to go back to Taipei so we took a bus back.. Quite fast.. About 20 mins only.. And it stopped directly in front of our hotel.. Haha.. Went back up to the room and dropped our shopping off first.. Decided to go for dinner.. Saw some slippers on sale.. Bought 2 pairs.. S$5 per pair only.. Haha.. Vanessa introduced us to this "Chuan Sisters Sichuan Style Restaurant".. Their specialty was "Fly's eyes" but it was sold out that day.. =(

Oh yeah.. And that's Vanessa.. Dunno why the picture turned out to be so old.. She's in her late twenties or early thirties only..

And that's dinner missing a tofu dish and a soup.. That's drunken chicken and the green thing is sort of a substitute for the "Fly's eyes".. Haha.. And that's not spaghetti in case you're wondering.. It's some Sichuan Dan Zai Noodle..

On our way back to the hotel, we passed by this Music Box shop that had a very nice name as you can see above.. Kinda reminded me of the trip in Japan's Otaru.. Regret not buying the DIY music boxes there..

Then it was time to say goodbye to Vanessa.. She'll only be coming to Singapore in September but by that time I won't be around le.. =( A very nice host I must say.. Brought us to buy a lot of things and around Jiufen..

Anyway, going back to Singapore tml le.. Very short trip this time.. Still got a lot of places haven't go yet.. Haha.. Oh well..
See ya!
